Considering a Spanish water dog puppy?

In my breeding work, I carefully select the parents of each litter, following the guidelines of the breed club’s breeding committee and thoroughly researching the health and temperament backgrounds of the dogs.

When the puppies are born, I do my best to keep the mother calm and stress-free in a peaceful environment. As the puppies grow, I dedicate a lot of time to socializing them and getting them used to everyday household sounds, different kinds of people, the outdoors, various surfaces, and more.

Here, the puppies are also introduced to different people and other adult dogs, helping them grow into well-adjusted and confident companions.

I carefully choose families for each puppy by meeting them in person and discussing both the needs of the breed and the family’s wishes and plans for activities.

I always share openly what I know about the parents of the litter and any known health issues in the bloodline.
It’s important for future owners to understand the original purpose of the Spanish Water Dog, especially when welcoming a puppy into their lives and raising it to become a well-balanced family member and a confident, well-adjusted companion in everyday life.

After the puppy moves to its new home, it’s important the family has time to continue socializing it—getting the puppy used to being alone, riding in the car, different places, sounds, and people.

Puppies go to their new homes at 7–8 weeks old, and the following weeks are a sensitive period where experiences leave a lasting impact.
The first year, especially the early months, requires time, energy, and commitment. Thoughtful socialization and guidance help the puppy grow into a confident, happy, and well-balanced family member.

The Spanish Water Dog is an active and intelligent breed. To raise a well-balanced adult, it’s important to fully expose the puppy to different environments and situations—cutting this short can lead to behavioral problems. At the same time, you’ll learn how your new dog reacts to unfamiliar situations and how to build trust so your dog feels secure with you.

The Spanish Water Dog was originally bred as a working dog, so it’s an active breed that needs plenty of exercise or other activities like scent work. The breed’s versatility is one of its greatest strengths — Spanish Water Dogs are used in hunting, agility, therapy work, search and rescue, and more.

When the puppy goes to its new home, it comes with:

  • A puppy folder containing feeding and care instructions, socialization tips, the birth certificate, veterinary documents, the registration papers, and more.

  • The official registration certificate (from the Finnish Kennel Club)

  • The puppy’s collar and leash, along with some supplies like toys, chew bones, treats, and other goodies.

The puppy is always delivered to its new home with a veterinary health check and identification (microchipped).

PUPPY TO ABROAD

Esmero Kennel has sent puppies to new homes or kennels abroad. If a puppy goes abroad, it will be vaccinated according to the requirements of the destination country and will receive a passport and the necessary documents.
